OYRTMA To Employ More Officers In 2022 — Fagbemi, Lauds Makinde For Effort Made To Reduce Traffic Brouhaha In Oyo

The Chairman, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi has said that the Agency through the Oyo State Government is set to employ more officers come next year to enhance the operation of Agency while also lauding Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on the efforts he has been making to ensure a traffic free Oyo State.

Mogaji Fagbemi who gave this assurance while featuring on a radio programme on Fresh FM105.9 with the programme titled Agbami Oselu, anchored by Alhaji Abolade Salami, on Sunday noted that there has been compliance that the current number of officers of OYRTMA are not sufficient to cover the wide range of traffic work in Oyo State.

He said that although the situation on ground before he came in as chairman was not really commendable but that since he has stepped In as the chairman, proactive steps have been taken to tackle the problems met and that things are getting better In and around the Agency.

Akin Fagbemi further noted that Governor Makinde has given the approval which is contained in the 2022 budget, for the recruitment process and exercise.

“You talked about the fact that our officers are not enough, well, civil servants are never enough. However, I am very happy to inform you that Governor Makinde has given us approval which is contained in the 2022 budget to recruit more officers. We know that we need more man power which we are going to work on anytime soon, and this will bring about a lot of improvement in our operations”, he said.

Mogaji Fagbemi further said while commenting on the reason his men has been soft with motorists that the kind of system that is being run by Gov Seyi Makinde is not an authoritarian one rather it is such that people are firstly engaged before any step is taken by the government.

While answering questions pertaining to impersonation, Fagbemi said since the activities of OYRTMA has been raised, some unscrupulous people have been going around portraying themselves as Officers of OYRTMA to extort people. He said that these people use Jackets inscribed with the Agency’s name to indulge in their unlawful activities.

“We have been having issues of impersonation since the activities of OYRTMA has been raised. Some unscrupulous people in unofficial dresses with Jackets that has OYRTMA inscription on it have been using going about extorting people. Some people also call themselves Local government consultants and which we have found not to be true”.

“There has been cases of people’s plate number being unbolted or different amounts of money collected from unsuspecting road users”, he said.

He however urge Oyo residents to report any form of extortion whether by these unscrupulous people or officers of the agency while adding that OYRTMA do not unbolt plate number.

He advised that motorists should report to any of the 28 commands In Ibadan or visit any of OYRTMA office across that 33 local governments in the state, and that if none of these offices could not be reached, people can come to OYRTMA’s Agodi secretariat office to lodge their complaint.
