Barely two months that men of Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) and Excise allegedly killed six(6) youths in Iseyin, they have again returned to Iseyin-Okeho road, Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State, in their readiness to checkmate the operational activities of people suspected to be smugglers of contraband goods.

They were on Saturday, July 3 sighted at Elewure Village along Iseyin-Okeho road, where they were in a state of preparedness to arrest the alleged smugglers who are plying the route for transportation of government’s outlawed imported goods like rice.

Naijatodaynews.com in an interaction with a resident at Elewure Village, whose name withheld for the sake of retribution disclosed that men of NCS and Excise arrived the community on Saturday, July 3 two months after they had carried out the dastardly act of allegedly senseless killings.

An anonymous respondent added that their stationary at a spot and latest patrol on the route was aimed at checkmating the people suspected to be smugglers of contraband goods like rice.

The respondent however said that the customs men’s patrol on Iseyin-Okeho had gone against their stay at 40 kilometres radius away from the international border, adding that the position of law permits them to stay and patrol at 5 kilometres to Iganna, in Iwajowa Local Government area of the state, which is equivalent to 40 kilometres radius away from Aiyegun International border.

Frantic effort was also made to speak with one of the customs men to know what brought them back, two months after they had left the route but vehemently declined to respond.

Recall that stray bullets killed six, injured one as customs men engaged suspected smugglers in the ancient town, on Thursday, May 13, 2021 while Muslim adherents were celebrating the end of Ramadan.

Following the loss of lives, youths in the community took to the streets protesting the killing of their kinsmen.

The ugly phenomenon of loss of lives was said to have orchestrated the decision taken by the community leaders to proscribe men of NCS from the ancient town.
