Patients at the Owena Dialysis Centre, University College Hospital (UCH) , Ibadan have called on the Chief Medical Director ( CMD) of the hospital , Professor Jesse Otegbayo to provide wheel chairs to alleviate their problem faced while assessing the centre .

The patients who commended the efforts of the CMD in the provision of modern hemodialysis machines, said it has become extremely difficult for patients who could not walk to get to Owena Dialysis Centre for treatment due to lack of functional wheel chairs in the hospital.

When visited, this reporter with Naija Examiner gathered that many of the patients , especially those on waiting list were subjected to pains when trying to use the few available wheel chairs that were either without tyres or in bad shape .
Some of the patients who spoke with this reporter on condition of anonymity , though commended the CMD for procuring modern hemodialysis machines for the hospital, appealed to the CMD to as a matter of urgency , look into the challenges faced by the patients, especially the lack of good wheel chairs.

” Another area we are calling on the CMD to look into is the air-conditioning system . As you can see the AC are not working at all . Those who are doing dialysis will spend not less than four hours on the machine , sweating profusely without air-conditioning system.
” Even , the medical personnel are also affected by this problem because they are working under very hot condition. And look at the new machines , they cost huge sums of money to procure , and without air-conditioning system , these machines will breakdown .

The machines are meant to work under low temperature , not under hot temperature . So, the CMD should please look into this as well.
” We are praying for him for doing so much since he assume office . As you can see, within a short time, he has procured modern hemodialysis machines for the hospital , not refurbished machines like the ones the former CMD bought . So, we are asking you to help us by calling on him to look into the problems of wheel chairs and fixing the air conditioning system here”, one of the patients said.

The General Overseer , Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye donated two more hemodialysis machines to the hospital in addition to the one he earlier commissioned during the hospital’s founders week ceremony in November.

The cleric, while commissioning the first hemodialysis machine he donated noted that UCH is a tertiary hospital that is central to healthcare delivery in Nigeria. He also acknowledged that turning around the hospital requires a humongous amount of money, hence the need for Nigerians and organizations to support it in every way possible.

This donation will significantly reduce the challenges faced at the Owena Dialysis centre with reference to patient waiting list and lack of adequate facilities.
