Reactions have continued to trail the failure of Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, to enforce restriction of movement while the monthly sanitation exercise is in progress between the hours of 7am-9am on last Saturday of the month.

Investigation conducted by naijatodaynews.com revealed that the Governor of pacesetter state had not canceled the monthly sanitation exercise in the state, but has not made any enforcement on restriction of movement and blockage of roads while the exercise lasts for complete two(2) hours on last Saturday of every month.

In an interaction with Sulaiman Akanbi, in Ibadan, he said people of Ibadan and Oyo State at large were people who could not easily abide by the rules and regulations of government when any order is made, unlike when such order is not made, people will continue to behave how they like.

Akanbi stressed that majority of people were not observing the monthly sanitation exercise, considering the places he had visited today, adding that he only noticed that an inability and failure of pacesetter government to make the monthly environmental exercise compulsory has made many residents to attach little or no importance to the programme.

Ibadan man said that the monthly sanitation programme which keeps environment and people healthy had been in existence for long and it is equally incumbent of Governor Seyi Makinde to maintain status quo on relevance of monthly sanitation exercise to the state and its inhabitants.

James Adewale who spoke in OkeOgun axis of the state, toed the path of first respondent by condemning Makinde’s failure to promulgate laws that will preclude people’s movement between the hours of 7am-9am on last Saturday of the month.

Adewale stressed that an inability to come up with law has actually given room to people’s negligence on monthly sanitation which in essence making them to pay little or no adherence to the exercise.

Seun Adelore, Chairman, Oyo Waste Management Board, has said that Makinde has not totally canceled the monthly sanitation exercise but stands firmly that, there should be movement and no blockage of roads across the length and breath of the state.

He reiterated that the number one citizen of pacesetter state had said time without number on broadcast and print media that, there should be monthly environmental sanitation but no movement and blockage of roads should be encouraged.

While filing this report, frantic efforts were made to reach out to the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Idowu Oyeleke and get his reactions on current issue of monthly environmental sanitation but were futile.

Different attempts were equally made to put calls through him but neither picked nor returned the calls.
