A report released by the Aids Healthcare Foundation in conjunction with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS and NOIPolls, has revealed that Nigerians consume about 587 million condoms yearly.
The report further stated that Nigeria needs a minimum of 1.15 billion condoms yearly if it must bring down cases of sexually transmitted diseases.
The report which was unveiled by the Prevention Programme Manager, AHF, Adeleye Taofik, partly reads: “The gap between current condom use (587 million) and total need (1 .15 billion) to achieve ninety percent (90 per cent) coverage is 564 million condoms annually.”
According to the report, North – Central, South- South and South- East use more condoms than any other region in the country. Their percentages of use are at 44 , 42 , 40 percent respectively.
The report, which revealed that males use condoms more than females, stated that the South-West, North-East and North-West have 38, 26, and 22 percentages respectively in their use of condoms.
