The President of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi has called off the strike.

Ogunyemi stated this on Wednesday during a press conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Ogunyemi said after a stakeholders meeting held on Tuesday, the union resolved that the FG will diligently implement the 2009 and funding of the universities.

“The union expects the Government to ensure that payment of the union members earned allowances and salaries.

“In our part, we have agreed to go back to classrooms, laboratories and we believe the FG and state government will fulfill their parts.

“We fall on students and parents to believe in us as we ensure quality education is given to students”.

Lecturers of universities across the country have been on strike since March, 2020. Among bone of contention is the enrollment of the academic staff on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and implementation of 2009 agreement.

The union and the Federal Government have been in talks since then, several of which have ended in deadlock.

Ogunyemi narrated how the union proceeded on two weeks warning strike in February before total shutdown in March.
