The Lawmakers in Oyo State House of Assembly have contributed fifty thousand naira(#50,000) each to sponsor their oversight functions.

The entire Lawmakers who had today suspended their plenary session were said to have embarked on oversight functions which took effect from today.

The reliable source who pleaded to act on a condition of anonymity revealed that each member of the house had to contribute fifty thousand naira(#50,000) to cater for all expenses and other logistics associated with the oversight functions.

The source added that the entire members had divided one another into ten(10) equal numbers to cover the designated zones except the Speaker’s zone which has not fallen under the zones of the current assignment.

The source said that though the file for Governor’s approval of financial expenses for oversight functions had been forwarded to the Governor Seyi Makinde, it stands that the Governor had not done the needful before the parliamentarians embarked on the journey.

It was reliably gathered that the lawmakers’ contribution becomes imperative and necessary so as to prevent extortion of people at the places of the legislative assignment.

It was added that all the lawmakers on the assignment had been warned and mandated not to collect a dime while on the assignment.

The source said that the duties of lawmakers centered on lawmaking, sponsoring bills and motions, appropriation of budget, oversight functions and others but it becomes disheartening and worrisome when the lawmakers are paying for official assignment.
