The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Agodi Divisional Headquarters, Iwo Road, Ibadan Northeast Local Government Area of Oyo State has revealed that the protesters who protested on Tuesday, October 13 against the ‘Police Brutality’ in Ibadan carried guns and shot sporadically while their demonstration of grievances was in progress.

He disclosed this during an exclusive phone conversation with naijatodaynews.com shortly after the protesters made failed attempts to forcefully invade his divisional headquarters at Iwo Road, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

He added that it was no longer a gainsaying nor indisputable fact that the protesters whose aim centred on call to end police brutality across the state and Nigeria at large carried guns and shot sporadically to scare people and made people high tensioned.

The DPO said that there was nothing bad in engaging in a protest to display grievances over an obvious and alleged injustice in the society but it has to be done in a peaceful and democratic manners.

He said that the protesters failed to act democratically and peacefully having caught with guns and shot sporadically in an environment where people are living with different kinds of ailment and other unbearable conditions.

The DPO stressed that democracy remains a system that requires adherence with notable principles and tenets which could easily translate into a demonstration of protest to voice out minds on issues and affairs that are unfair, unjust and undemocratic to all and sundry.

The DPO enjoined all protesters to be mindful of violence and lawlessness which are capable of undermining the fruition and effectiveness of the meaningful protests.
