AKINYELE KILLINGS: Youth Expressed Displeasure At Oyo Police Headquarters Over Serial Ritual Killer’s Escape

Some furious students and youth on Wednesday expressed their displeasure at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan over the escape of Sunday Shodipe, the 19-year-old prime suspect in connection with Akinyele Local Government killings.

Shodipe, who confessed to have carried out some of the killings in the council, escaped from the police on August 11.

The angry student group and some youths staged a protest at the police headquarters and the Commissioner of Police Nwachukwu Enwonwu,led other officers to receive them.

The protest was led by all Presidents of Students’ Union Government(SUG) of higher institutions in Oyo State

President of the Student Union,The Polytechnic,Ibadan, Blessing Fadare who spoke with The Guardian said wonder how could a suspect escape from the custody. The students gave the Police Commissioner a three-day ultimatum to produce the suspect.

But some of the protesters were said to have gone violent and started hurling missiles at the place.

The situation was said to have been promptly brought under control.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed that some students came there to protest and some of them ” got our of hand”.

Fadeyi said the situation was professionally handled and normalcy had returned.
