Oyo Lawmaker(Okedoyin) Moves Motion On Resuscitation Of Bursary And Scholarship Awards To Indigent Students

The Lawmaker representing Saki west at Oyo State House of Assembly Hon. F.J. Okedoyin has moved a motion for the resuscitation of bursary and scholarship awards to indigent and brilliant students of Oyo State studying in tertiary institutions.

Okedoyin revealed this in his motion titled,”RESUSCITATION OF BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TO INDIGENT AND BRILLIANT STUDENTS OF OYO STATE ORIGIN STUDYING IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS” which was presented at a plenary session presided over by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin

According to his presentation,”Notes that since the inception of present administration in the State under the leadership of our amiable Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State has continued to experience a new dawn in the education sectors”.

“The genuine commitment of Mr. Governor to quality and sound education in the State is an attempt to bring back Oyo State to her past glory of leading on education among the commity of States in Nigeria”.

” This is showcased in the free education policy and strategic education mechanisms put in place by the present administration in the State. The Governor, a very passionate man, who understands the prevalent level of poverty and economic power of the people in the State made the less privileged and poor people the centre of His Government programmes and policies”.

” Our God sent man (GSM) knows where the shoe pinches, this is highly commendable.
Further notes that, the present administration has been continually gathering momentum, becoming more popular and legitimized because of the friendly policy and running of all inclusive governance of Governor Seyi Makinde”.

” This is the type of Government that people had been yearning for. A government that is interested in producing the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people in the State i.e establishment of an egalitarian society”.

“Aware that the governing body of Oyo State Scholarship Board which had core mandates to give bursary and scholarship awards to indigenes of Oyo State studying in tertiary institutions was constituted last in 2009”.

” The Board had not been re- constituted despite continuous annual budgetary provision for the Scholarship Board by successive administration in the State. Distinguished colleagues, there is no doubt that running of Government is subject to availability of funds, while Government sets its priority right in a way that touch lives of people directly or indirectly”.

” I recalled in June, 2019 when Governor Seyi Makinde took over the running of administration in the State, he offered scholarship awards to indigenes of Oyo State studying Law in Schools across the country. This is a good testimony of his passion for education and helping students financially”.

“Further aware that there is budgetary provision for Oyo State Scholarship Board in year 2020 approved Estimates. Hence the Executive Arm is hereby urged to constitute the Board in order to resuscitate bursary and scholarship awards to students of Oyo State origin across tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria especially the indigents ones”.

” This will go a long way to encourage youths in the State to further their education at tertiary levels. Brilliant students who could not afford payment of tuition fee due to financial incapability of their parents will be encouraged to take steps to further their education”.

” Resolves to urge this Honourable House to:
(i) appeal to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, to graciously consider and constitute the Governing Board of Oyo State Scholarship Board to enhance the resuscitation of bursary and scholarship awards to indigent and brilliant students of Oyo State origin studying in tertiary institutions towards complementing the giant steps of His Excellency’s free education policy; and
(ii) urge the Executive Arm of Government through the Ministry of Education and Scholarship Board to put measures in place to have a comprehensive data base of indigent and brilliant students of Oyo State Origin studying in tertiary institutions”.
