Following the sacking of Hon Olagoke Olamide Akinajo, former chairman, House Committee on public works and transport by the Speaker, Oyo state house of assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, facts have emerged as to why the lawmaker representing North East Constituency 1 was relieved of his position by the Speaker.
A credible source in the Oyo state house of assembly who spoke on condition of anonymity stated Hon Akinajo ran into troubled water with the Speaker when he was fingered among those behind the purported fake story of Ogundoyin’s impeachment as Speaker.
The source noted that the revelation of Akinajo’s involvement in the purported fake impeachment story saga enraged the Speaker, Rt Hon Ogundoyin following a personal findings by the Speaker, adding that Ogundoyin became furious so much that Hon Akinajo and others fingered in the impeachment story have since been placed under watch as disloyal members by the Speaker.
According to the source, the stroke that broke the camel’s back was when Hon Akinajo as former chairman, house committee on public works and transport started requesting for details of amount expended on renovation of both Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s quarters which was said to be in the region of N20million (twenty million naira) and N15million (fifteen million naira) respectively which according to the source was described as very disrespectful to the Speaker as it was perceived as secretly investigating the house leadership.
The source noted that should such details be required by Hon Akinajo, in the spirit of togetherness on ground of the cordial relationship that exists between the Speaker and other lawmakers, he (Hon Akinajo) ought to carry the Speaker along to dispel all possible doubts or ulterior motives against the backdrop of allegedly trying to investigate the leadership of the house.
According to the source, these were the major events that berthed the impression of mistrust and disloyalty on the part of Hon Akinajo which led to eventual sacking of the lawmaker as the chairman, house committee on public works and transport during its Tuesday’s plenary and was immediately replaced by Hon Kehinde Taofeek Olatunde popularly called deacon, representing Akinyele Constituency II.
Meanwhile, principal officers of the house have distanced themselves from the Speaker’s decision of sacking Hon Olagoke Olamide Akinajo as the chairman, house committee on public works by describing the decision as a unilateral one adding that the Speaker did not discuss anything of sort with them prior to the plenary.
However, another source in the Oyo state house of assembly who also spoke with sunrisebulletin.com on condition of anonymity stressed that even though the Speaker’s decision was described by some lawmakers as unilateral, the Speaker has the power to take such decisions at his discretion if and when he deems necessary.
As at the time of filing this report, all attempts to reach Hon Olagoke Akinajo for comments or reactions proved abortive as he was unavailable to speak with press.
