JUST IN: Our Lives At Risk As There Are No Sufficient Protective Kits — UCH Staff Laments

A Staff of University College Hospital,Ibadan has lamented that their lives are at risk,sequel to no sufficient numbers of protective kits to approach, handle and treat patients with confirmed cases of coronavirus pandemic.


A staff who spoke under the condition of anonymity lamented that the handling and treatment of patients with confirmed cases of the contagious disease has exposed them to more dangers and risks of lives as they were handling the tasks with no dependable protective kits.
An anonymous staff said that since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the state and UCH had been acknowledged as a diagnosed centre for testing and confirmation of cases, it was pathetic and disheartening that there is no new special centre for covid-19 except the building they had been using since outbreak of Ebola.


Adding that since outbreak of the pernicious disease and its continuous spread, adequate provisions have not been made on protective kits to all members of staff against their contraction with the virus while on duty.
She lamented that some members of staff are now nursing phobia and being fearful as there are no enough protective kits to resist their contraction with the deadly disease.


The person said that they had no reasons to abscond from work, provided there are required materials to wage war against the virus.
There should be an insurance scheme for all members of staff at this material time of vivid-19, stressing that they could only have knowledge and awareness of broadcast on radio and publications in the print media but implementation becomes story now.


Also lamented that they have not been enjoying hazards allowances despite their commitment and exposure to risky tasks, stressing that they did not know who fabricate lies between the federal government and the management board of the medical institution.
Now called on governments at  federal and state levels to ensure an effective collaboration on how the requests of the medical institution’s staff would be received.

The person alleged former minister of health, Professor Ajewole of embezzled their salary of One and half month during the three month strike, in 2018, last year when they were fighting for their areas in which federal government later released their salary and area that was withheld by FG but Prof Ajewole connived with former University College Hospital CMD, Prof Temitope Alonge and diverted the money for their own use.

Also said staff’s exposure to covid-19 now was more risky,considering the lack of the protective kits and other materials to deal decisively with the pandemic.
He enjoined both Oyo State and federal government to safe their lives, adding that to safe others’ lives, theirs should be saved first.
