The entire students of all tertiary institutions in Oyo town have cried out to Governor Seyi Makinde on epileptic supply of electricity in Oyo town and its environs.
The students’ grievances was contained in a letter with the title” An open letter to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde on Epileptic Power Supply within school communities in Oyo Town” that was on students’ behalf written on Friday, 28th February,2020 by Boluwatife Oluwafisayo, a fresh graduate of Civil Engineering at Ladoke Akintola University(LAUTECH), Ogbomoso which its copy was made available to Naija Today News.
In his words,”constant electricity supply is an important element for the development of any economy in any State. It is wide spread and generally accepted that regular power supply develops the economy, the youths , brings about more technological ideas and enhances growth of all dimensions in different spheres of the State” said Oluwafisayo.
In his continuation, “as important as this instrument is, it is important to point it out that its state in Oyo town is dilapidating, unencouraging, kaput and of course nothing to write home about. This development is a tragedy as well as a thorn in the flesh of Students whose strive for Education is not in doubt”.
He said, “Oyo town is so lucky to have Emmanuel Alayande College of Education/Ekiti State University, Federal School of Surveying, Ajayi Crowther University, Federal College of Education, Special and Atiba University as dignified institutions who poses her as a limelight and gives her a lead between and among her peers . But it is sadden and heart breaking that what we get in return of our Love to Oyo town is a black out state even during our examinations, thereby making life for us difficult and Education which ought to be a crucial aspect of life unbearable”.
In his assurance, “Your Excellency sir, Engr. Abiodun Oluseyi Makinde, I believe you are a man of dignified character whose concern is to see to the welfare of your good people in Oyo State. As a Student in a reputable College of Education in Oyo town, I felt it is high time we need your usual support and intervention in Oyo town as our examinations are forthcoming.
Education as I believe and as you preach, should come with ease and a sense of Love , rather than the hell and tribulations we undergo”.
He said,”may I reiterate sir , that we have had weeks without power supply and even months. What gives me pain is the happiness we see in the faces of these IBEDC Officials when they parade our hostels for their bills even despite epileptic supply. Some of our Students out of anger and frustration had at one time or the other concluded to be violent, but as good citizens of the Pace Setter State who understand your unrelenting efforts, we have at all times cut away the spirit of violence, thereby giving this piece a necessity”.
Boluwatife concluded,”I write this on behalf of all Students and the good people in Oyo town , as a matter of urgency as our examinations are forthcoming that your intervention is highly needed”.
